Where will my massage session take place?
Your massage session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. You will lie on a massage table with a heating pad and clean linens.  Soft music will play to help you relax.  You are welcome to suggest a style of music or bring your own digital playlist.

My massage studio is within the historic farmhouse where I live in Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve.  You will need to walk on a bit of gravel and grass and climb three stairs; please let me know if you need any accommodations.  Two friendly felines also live in the house; though they are never allowed in the massage space, individuals with severe allergies should be aware of their presence.

Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you wear. You should undress to your level of comfort.

I will leave the room while you undress and make yourself comfortable on the table between the sheets.  During the session, you will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable.  Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

What parts of my body will be massaged?
You will choose which body parts are massaged.  You may wish to have a holistic full-body experience, you may desire treatment only to part of your body, or you may have a sensitive area that you do not want touched.  A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders.  Many people also enjoy abdominal massage.  Massage therapy is non-sexual and does not include breast or genital manipulation.

Are there different kinds of massage and bodywork?
There are numerous types of massage and bodywork.  Techniques utilize different kinds of touch: broad flowing strokes, more specific deep pressure, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, stretching, and more.  As your body becomes relaxed, pressure can be gradually increased if you wish to target and relieve specific areas of muscular tension.  You are welcome to ask questions and discuss the methods being used at any time.  Because massage is most effective when your body is not resisting, you should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that I can adjust the pressure or approach.

What should I do during the massage session?
Prior to the massage, please ask any questions you have and communicate your goals and preferences. During the massage, make yourself comfortable, breathe deeply, and try to be curious about the sensations you are experiencing.  I will gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session.  Many people close their eyes and completely relax, communicating only if they need pressure adjusted.  I welcome your feedback at any time and encourage you to speak as much or as little as you desire.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable?
Yes.  You will be asked to complete an intake form that includes a health history for this reason.  Though not as comprehensive as a visit to a physician would require, some people are surprised by the detail of medical questioning before a massage.  Your health information will assist me in treating you safely.  I take your privacy very seriously; be assured that all massage therapy treatments, communications, and records will be safeguarded and remain confidential.  Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly read and complete the forms.
